If all goes well, the most anticipated boys volleyball match of the Lackawanna League season is scheduled for Tuesday night.

Abington Heights spring sports teams have been on pause since last week due to COVID-19 situations. However, athletics are scheduled to resume Tuesday.

So, let’s hope for the best.

Blue Ridge, the defending champion from the 2019 season, visits Abington Heights, this season’s preseason favorite. Both teams are undefeated in the league.

DISTRICT 2 PLAYOFFS

Right now, there are plans to host a district postseason. Things do get a bit tricky and it is likely going to be the higher seeded team hosting all games including the championship finals, just as the girls did in the fall.

Here is what piaad2.org has posted

CLASS 3A

Since there are 5 teams in the classification, District 2 will have its own tournament. All teams will qualify and be seeded on
their power ranking. Tournaments do not count in either the power rankings or winning percentage. All matches will be
single matches and be held at the site of the higher seed.

  • Quarterfinals: Wednesday, May 19 at the highest seed.
  • Semifinals: Tuesday, May 25 at the site of the highest seed.
  • Championship: Thursday, May 27
  • Note: The first round of the state tournament will be June 1, quarterfinals are scheduled for June 5, semifinals
will be on June 8 and the finals will be on June 12 at Rec Hall on the campus of Penn State at 1 p.m.

CLASS 2A

District 2 is in a subregional with District 1 — Dock Mennonite and District 11 — Bethlehem Catholic and Southern Lehigh.

In order to qualify for the playoffs a team must either finish in the Top 8 ranked teams OR have a .500 winning percentage in either the league or overall record. Tournaments do not count in the power ranking or winning percentage. A minimum of 8 teams would qualify for the subregional, but the potential for more teams qualifying exists if they finish above .500.
With the completion of all league schedules by May 13th, the volleyball committee recommended spreading the tournament out over two weeks.

  • First round: Monday, May 17 at the higher seeds and will be
announced by the Volleyball Committee by Friday, May 14.
  • Quarterfinals:  Wednesday, May 19 and will be held at the site of the highest seed.
  • Semifinals: Tuesday, May 25 at the site of the highest seeds.
  • Championship: Thursday, May 27 at the site of the highest remaining seed.
  • Third-place: Since District 1-2-11 will send 3 teams into the state tournament, a third-place match will be held May
27 at the site of the highest remaining seed.
