The long-awaited 2021 season is moving forward as best it can for boys volleyball players.

Unlike the other spring sports competing and navigating through the coronavirus pandemic, volleyball has the added hurdle of playing indoors. There are restrictions on number of people in the venues and, as we found out late in the winter, it’s difficult to contain exposure and transmission as there is an uptick in cases.

That being said, teams are playing and matches are getting in so it is time to highlight what has been accomplished to this point.

First, Abington Heights and Blue Ridge received the early roles as favorites in the Lackawanna League. So far, both have played outstanding volleyball.

Abington Heights

  • Western Wayne, W 3-1
  • Gray-Paul Bossi had 10 kills; Nate Steenback had 8 kills
  • Elk Lake, W 3-0
  • Forest City, W 3-0

TOP 5 TEAMS

So, the top three teams are all unbeaten at this point. Delaware Valley has a very good win over Tunkhannock, which is 3-1 in the Wyoming Valley Conference. North Pocono got off to a staggered first season in the Lackawanna League and has to makeup a match. Western Wayne is a solid team with its two losses coming against Abington Heights and Blue Ridge.
