HS TENNIS: Power teams working toward showdown week; Riverside stays No. 1

The high school tennis season is off to a terrific start and truly, all eyes are on what is ahead as this is the deepest talent pool the league has had in some time.

The heavy hitters continue to roll through the competition. One team that has proven it has a solid lineup is North Pocono. The Lady Trojans took Riverside to a 3-2 loss and they also lost to Scranton Prep, 4-1.

North Pocono has a 3-2 win over a very strong West Scranton group and a 5-0 win over Holy Cross. The Lady Trojans could be a contender in the District 2 Class 3A team chase.

Riverside, Abington Heights and Scranton Prep are all viable District 2 team championship contenders. And with their depth, could be factors on the state stage, as well.

That is getting a bit ahead of ourselves.

TOP 5 TEAMS

Riverside, Abington Heights and Scranton Prep have not lost. Riverside has the strongest lineup of singles players and it appears the championship could come down to the doubles matchups in the big showdowns. North Pocono, as stated above, is a solid No. 4 team, while West Scranton jumps into the poll this week as the Lady Invaders have gotten back on track.
