It was a very big Thursday afternoon for Valley View senior Mason Kordish.

Earlier in the day, he learned that he had been named as a Class 4A all-state running back by the Pennsylvania Football Writers. He had already been named as The Times-Tribune Offensive Player of the Year after running for 1,822 yards on 252 carries with 25 rushing touchdowns and 27 touchdowns overall in leading Valley View to the Lackawanna Football Conference Division II and District 2 Class 4A championships. This season, he had 10 100-yard games which included a season-high 209 yards in a win over North Pocono and finished his career with 2,414 yards and 35 rushing touchdowns.

Then, at an afternoon luncheon, Kordish received the 2018 Fiore Cesare Award and Scholarship which is presented by the Roy Davis Scranton Chapter of Officials and the Peoples Security Bank.

He is the third winner of the award from Valley View. His coach George Howanitz won the inaugural award in 1992 and Kyle Passeri won in 2006.
