Championship week lived up to its billing and two teams from the Lackawanna Interscholastic Athletic Association teams captured titles.

On Wednesday, Delaware Valley pulled off the unimaginable. The Warriors not only ended Holy Redeemer’s 78-match winning streak in the conference, but did it in three games. They completed the season 12-0 and won every match, 3-0.

And on Thursday, Blue Ridge stopped Forest City, 3-1, to claim its second league championship in the last three seasons.

RAIDERS CLAIM TITLE

BY JOBY FAWCETT

NEW MILFORD — It took a quick meeting where they challenged each other’s toughness to get the Blue Ridge volleyball players charged up against an inspired opponent.
Each time they faced adversity after an erratic start, the Raiders responded.
Down a game in a match against Forest City that would eventually determine the Lackawana League champion, Blue Ridge clawed back to a 3-1 (8-25, 25-18, 25-16, 25-21) win Thursday in the regular-season finale.
The Raiders (11-1) won their second league title in the last three years and will be the No. 2 seed for the District 1-2-11 Class 2A subregional playoffs.
“This shows how important our family is here with this team,” Blue Ridge’s Calvin Scheideler said. “It shows how we can come back from anything and shows how strong we are as a team. We are not just individuals.
“This was amazing.”
