It was a wonderful Sunday for athletes from the Lackawanna Track Conference who competed at the Pennsylvania Track and Field Coaches Association State Championships at Penn State University.
Five athletes captured medals in an event where there is only ONE classification and the athletes had to first meet a qualifying standard for their event, then be invited to compete in the meet.
Two athletes were among the Top 3 in their event. Scranton Prep’s Victoria Atkinson won a silver medal in the girls pole vault with a personal-best mark of 12 feet, 6 inches. Wallenpaupack’s Tyler Wirth won a bronze medal in the One Mile — one of the most coveted races among distance runners.
