It was a huge week in girls volleyball and the top teams and players elevated themselves.

Everything started with the featured nonconference game between Western Wayne and Delaware Valley. If you recall, Western Wayne had taken over the No. 1 spot from the Lady Warriors in The Times-Tribune Top 5. It did create a buzz for the showdown.

Delaware Valley rose to the challenge and defeated the Lady ‘Cats in straight sets.

HIGHLIGHTS

HS VOLLEYBALL: Western Wayne 3, Blue Ridge 2 – Highlights

Posted by Joby Fawcett, The Times-Tribune on Thursday, October 10, 2019

THE FALLOUT

After the big week, things certainly took shape in the Lackawanna League.

Western Wayne has a two-match lead with three to play in the standings. Blue Ridge is in second place and has locked down the No. 2 seed for the District 2 Class 1A playoffs. Dunmore has also clinched a playoff berth in Class 2A, while Western Wayne and Abington Heights secured their spots in Class 3A.

What we also know is that there will be a new champion. Dunmore, which had a big win over Abington Heights last week, is four matches back of Western Wayne with three to play.

The outcomes also shook up The Times-Tribune Top 5 poll, but only slightly.
