After this weekend’s results, there will be new champions in Class 6A, Class 5A and Class 3A.

Upsets were the theme in the semifinals:

Riverside accomplished the unthinkable with a win over two-time defending champion and state-ranked Wyoming Seminary.

  • Who could have seen Riverside as a threat in this class?

Scranton knocked out three-time defending champion Hazleton Area with Kevin Lazdowsky knocking down free throws to clinch the victory.

  • Who could have seen that coming?

Dallas logoFinally, Dallas ended the eight-year run of championship seasons for the Abington Heights boys team with a win in the semifinals.

We didn’t foresee this upset, but we did call Pittston Area a sleeper team. The Patriots nearly knocked off top-seeded Wallenpaupack in the semifinals, falling in OT.
