Dupont native Brandon Matthews is going back for a second go-round on the Korn Ferry Tour, this time with a lot more experience and success in his back pocket.
Matthews finished 33rd in the season finale of the Latinoamerica Tour, allowing him to keep his points lead and earn the Player of the Year and Roberto De Vicenzo Award. It also guaranteed Matthews fully exempt status for 2022 on the Korn Ferry circuit, the PGA’s developmental tour.
The 27-year-old former PIAA champion won twice in the season’s pandemic-condensed schedule, making the cut in all eight events. Because of his limited schedule, Matthews’ wins in November and June came in a span of just three tournaments.
Matthews last played on the Korn Ferry Tour in 2019, an injury-plagued year that saw him make just four cuts in 21 events, not making the weekend in the final 12 tournaments.
He debuted on the Web.com Tour in 2017, playing four events, then competed in 21 tournaments in 2018, making the cut in 13 of 21 events and finishing 93rd on the money list. He tied for 25th in the tour’s qualifying tournament to get back to the renamed Korn Ferry Tour, but battled a back injury and swing changes before going to the Latinoamerica Tour, where he won three times in two seasons.
