Mid Valley waited — and put in a lot of work — for its opportunity to dethrone Lakeland as champion of the Lackawanna Track Conference Division III.
The Spartans’ time arrived.
Jeremiah Wolo clinched the win with first-place finishes in the high jump and pole vault to launch the Spartans past Lakeland, 83-67. It ended Lakeland’s 43-meet winning streak that started in 2013 and also clinched a tie for the LTC Division III crown, Mid Valley’s first since 2012.
Lakeland’s last dual-meet loss came on April 30, 2012 when Scranton Prep beat the Chiefs 94-56 in a LTC Division I meet.
Later that week:
- The Avengers was released
- NCIS was the top-rated television show
- Gas cost $3.92 a gallon
- “Glad You Came” by The Wanted was the No. 1 song in America
Lakeland’s run ranks fourth-best of all time in the Lackawanna Track Conference
