Good Friday morning volleyball fans.

Well, last week produced more exciting action. For the most part, the Lackawanna League has been status quo. However, Blue Ridge did compete in a weekend tournament where it lost to Athens, 3-1, and Wyoming Area, 3-0, but bounced back with a pair of convincing shutout wins over Lackawanna Trail and Mountain View.

Western Wayne remains undefeated in the league. Things get very intense for the Lady ‘Cats this week, but more on that later. They posted three wins by shutout and have lost only one game in the league this fall.

Delaware Valley went toe-to-toe with traditional power Holy Redeemer, eventually falling, 3-2. It is the second loss of the season for the Lady Warriors, who also have another big week coming up, again, more on that later.

All three teams qualified for their respective District 2 tournament.

And all of those results lead us to jump ahead in the our usual ON THE BLOG protocol.

We usually wait to the end and after the recap to unveil The Times-Tribune Top 5, but today, because for the most part results followed the expected pattern with one defeat, we have some news.

TIMES-TRIBUNE TOP 5

Western Wayne has taken over as the No. 1 team in the poll. The Lady ‘Cats deserve and have earned the recognition after their impressive start, and strong play. Delaware Valley did suffer, albeit to Holy Redeemer, a second loss. Now, that will all work itself out Monday in a much-anticipated match — if I can make it — when Delaware Valley plays at Western Wayne in a nonconference match.

After the flipping of the top two teams, though, everything remains the same. Blue Ridge remains at No. 3, Abington Heights, which did suffer a setback against Western Wayne, is fourth and Dunmore is in at No. 5.

NONCONFERENCE

So, after digesting that information you can see why we jumped ahead.

Delaware Valley will play at Western Wayne. This is a nonconference match, but it does count toward both team’s Power Rating in District 2. Plus, it sure will be fun and exciting.

First and foremost, three returning All-Region players and last year’s overall Times-Tribune Female Athlete of the Year will be on the court. So this could be one of the rare opportunities to see that collection of talent in one athletic event in any sport this season.

FLASHBACK

WESTERN WAYNE 3, BLUE RIDGE 0

September 16, 2019

S. CANAAN TWP. — Rebecca Klemovitch and Sydney Krompasky showed why they are considered two of the best girls volleyball players in the Lackawanna League.
Western Wayne’s one-two combination dominated in the first of two much anticipated matches against Blue Ridge.
Their combined efforts provided the spark for the preseason favorite to roll to a 3-0 (25-22, 25-20, 25-15) win Monday in a battle between undefeated teams at Western Wayne High School.
“I am so happy with this win,” Klemovitch said. “We practiced so hard for this match because we knew they were a very good team. We crushed it tonight and I am so happy to see the rest of our season and where it goes.
“We are going to keep pushing and working hard to get better.”
