The early signing period for football prospects in the Class of 2020 is upon us, and Penn State is expected to bring in a larger-than-usual class throughout the day. On the Penn State blog today, I’ll be breaking down each of the signees. Here is my scouting report on Florida running back Caziah Holmes.
Height: 5-11
Weight: 180
School: Cocoa (Fla.) HS
Projected position: Running back
Rating: Four stars by Rivals.com, 247sports and ESPN
Other offers: Auburn, Colorado State, Duke, Florida, Florida State, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisville, Maryland, Miami (Fla.), Michigan, Mississippi, Mississippi State, Nebraska, Ohio State, Rutgers, Tennessee, Virginia, West Virginia.
Projection: Holmes is another Florida gift from running backs coach Ja’Juan Seider, who recruits the Sunshine State well and has pulled his share of solid skill prospects away from Florida, Florida State and Miami. Holmes has 4.4 speed and had plenty of success playing for a really good program in a really good high school league. He can break runs to the outside and is dangerous in the passing game, but he’s also a guy who can make the cut and turn the ball upfield. He’ll take what he is given, and that’s the kind of back that has had success in Penn State’s system. He’ll likely be part of the rotation at running back in 2020, and he should ultimately be able to help on kick returns, as well.
