Passersby might have noticed some new artwork in downtown Scranton this week.
Scranton-based mural company Northeast Art Project has started work on a piece at Cosmic Cinemas at Lackawanna and Penn avenues, across from the Marketplace at Steamtown. In a statement, Jenn Warnetsky, the Marketplace’s general manager, called the mural “a space-aged makeover for Cosmic Cinemas.”
Designed by artist Eric Bussart, the mural so far depicts a reel of film, a movie clapboard, 3-D glasses and a drink cup.
“Murals have the potential to change and revitalize a community,” said Ryan Hnat, who runs NEAP. “Bringing more murals to downtown Scranton can only happen through cooperation of business owners, developers and community organizations. Northeast Art Project is excited to be able to work with the Marketplace at Steamtown and Cosmic Cinemas.”
