On Wednesday, Nov. 11, at 5:30p.m., the Dietrich Theater will be hosting a special movie event featuring the film “Ben Is Back.” With an all-star cast of Julia Roberts, Lucas Hedges, Courtney B. Vance and Kathryn Newton, this film tells the story of 19 year-old Ben, who unexpectedly returns to his family’s suburban home on Christmas Eve morning. Ben’s mother is relieved and welcoming but wary of her son staying clean. Over a turbulent 24 hours, new truths are revealed, and a mother’s undying love for her son is tested as she does everything in her power to keep him safe.
Sponsored by the Northeastern Pennsylvania Health Care Foundation and Wyoming County C.A.R.E.S., admission, popcorn and soda are free of charge for all who attend.
The film will be introduced by Tunkhannock Area School District Drug and Alcohol Specialist Cammie Anderson and Tunkhannock Area High School teacher Katie Wisnosky.
After the film, all are invited to stay for a Q & A session with Cammie and Katie.
According to Katie and Cammie, “It is hard to find a family not touched by the opioid epidemic in one way or another. ‘Ben Is Back’ hints at how small town America has experienced the opioid crisis. We are showing the film to raise awareness of how addiction begins and the trauma it causes to family and friends of those involved in the struggle. We hope to continue the dialogue with young people and parents about the dangers of how one pill either prescribed for wisdom teeth or passed at a party can lead to a lifetime of heartbreak.”
Free tickets to Ben Is Back will be available at DietrichTheater.com, the ticket booth or by calling the Dietrich at 570-836-1022 ext. 3, while they last. Seating is limited.
The Dietrich is following CDC guidelines for mask wearing and social distancing. Face masks are required to enter the theater and must be worn at all times when navigating the theater. Once seated in socially distance seat, mask may be removed to enjoy popcorn and other concession items.
