Amazon Prime Day was delayed this year because of the COVID-19 pandemic. In the past, it has been held in July. This year, it will be held on two days, Oct. 13 and 14.

Prime Day is an annual event for Amazon Prime members.
How much does a Prime membership cost?
Prime costs $119 a year or $12.99 a month. It is free to join for 30 days.
What is included in a Prime membership?
With Prime, members receive free shipping including two-day, same-day, release-date on pre-orders and two-hour in some ZIP codes. Members also receive Prime video streaming of movies and television shows, music and games and can get HBO, Showtime and Starz for an additional fee; savings from Whole Foods Market, books, earnings on a credit card, free grocery delivery from Amazon Fresh in some areas, Prime Pantry grocery and early access to special deals.
What happens on Prime Day?
Members receive special savings and deals on products. Some of the best savings can be realized on Amazon products such as Echo, Ring, Fire TV and tablets, Kindle and Alexa. Some of the deals already revealed include:
- Two Echo Dot devices for $39.98 (add the code DOTPRIME2PK at checkout)
- Toshiba 55-inch 4K Fire TV Edition Smart TV for $299.99
- Insiginia 43-inch 4K Fire TV Edition Smart TV for $199.99
- Save $45 on Echo Show 5
- Blink Mini Camera for $24.99
- Echo Auto for $19.99
What other deals are available?
If you spend $10 with a small business on Amazon, Amazon will give you a $10 credit to use on Prime Day. Same thing applies to Whole Foods – spend $10, get a $10 credit.
You could win one of 30 $1,000 Amazon.com gift cards by sharing a photo of how Prime “delivers joy to your life” and using #PrimeDayPhotos.
Amazon also has Lightning Deals that last less than a day. These deals sell out quickly.
Who else has events similar to Prime Day?
Target has announced it will hold “Deal Days” on Oct. 13 and 14. Target will feature digital deals on those days with the best prices going to members of Target’s loyalty program.
Best Buy will offer its Black Friday deals on Oct. 13 and 14. Best Buy said, “shoppers can get dozens of deals straight from the not-yet-released Black Friday ad … The rest of Best Buy’s Black Friday ad, and more opportunities to score Black Friday deals, will come later this month.”
Apple is expected to unveil the iPhone 12 on Oct. 13. The event announcement came with the tagline, “Hi, Speed.”
