Party on the Patio

Rock ‘n’ roll fans can catch Black Dog during this week’s Party on the Patio, set for on Thursday, Aug. 18.

Doors open at 6:30 p.m., and the tribute to Led Zeppelin will perform at 7:30 at Mohegan Sun Pocono, 1280 Highway 315, Plains Twp. Guests must be 21 or older to attend.

Pioneer Nights

The annual Pioneer Nights celebration returns to downtown Carbondale from Wednesday, Aug. 17, to Saturday, Aug. 20.

The festival runs on Main Street on Wednesday through Friday from 5 to 11 p.m. and Saturday from 11 a.m. to midnight. Live music includes the Critchley Brothers Band on Wednesday, the Wanabees on Thursday, the Luongo Brothers Band on Friday and the Broken Hearts Band on Saturday. A fireworks display will take place Friday at 9:30 p.m.

Irish River Fest

Ancient Order of Hibernians, JFK Division 1, will present Irish River Fest on Saturday, Aug. 20.

The fundraiser runs from 1 to 5 p.m. along the Lackawanna River at Sweeney’s Beach, located off Poplar Street in Scranton. It will have raffles, games and music plus food and drinks available for purchase.

Tickets cost $10 for ages 11 and older are free for children 10 and younger.

Pittston Tomato Festival

The annual Pittston Tomato Festival takes place Thursday, Aug. 18, through Sunday, Aug. 21, throughout the city’s downtown.

The festival begins Friday at 5 p.m. with performances, and an opening ceremony takes place at 6. Then, it is off to the races on Saturday at 10 a.m. with the annual Pittston Tomato Festival 5K Run. Registration begins at 9:30 a.m. at the Greater Pittston YMCA, 10 N. Main St., Pittston.

A parade then steps off at 10:30 a.m. at the A-Plus Mini Mart and ends at the Cooper’s Co-op building. There also will be live performances throughout the day and a tomato contest at 7 p.m. on the festival grounds.

The festival ends Sunday with the Little Miss & Little Mr. Tomato Contest at 10:45 a.m. and more performances.

Back to School Get-Together

Get ready to head back to class with the Back to School Get-Together on Saturday, Aug. 20, from noon to 2 p.m. at the Viewmont Mall, 100 Viewmont Mall, Scranton.

Presented by PAK Pediatrics, the event features notebook decorating (while supplies last), character appearances, music by DJ Danny, a performance by Damian the Magician, balloon art, glitter tattoos and more.

Donations of school supplies for local families also will be collected through Tuesday, Sept. 6, in the bin in Center Court.
