The Wayne County commissioners will dedicate a disabled-accessible picnic table at the Park Street Complex to the memory of a Special Olympics volunteer and others who have died from COVID-19.

Greentown resident Megan Ashley Pitino, a graduate of Wallenpaupack Area High School and Keystone College, was a huge supporter of Area P Special Olympics, serving as a track and field coach and accompanying athletes to regional competitions.

She died of coronavirus complications Dec. 18 at age 27.

“Megan always went above and beyond,” said Kim Emmett of Community Vocational Services in Honesdale, who served with Pitino at the Special Olympics. “It was a huge loss to the organization but also to the athletes she worked with.”

The picnic table dedication will be 1 p.m. Thursday. The public is invited.
