Local resorts haven’t announced start dates for their ski seasons, but they are eyeing the middle of the month.
Charles Jefferson, part owner of Montage Mountain, said the recent cold weather helped the resort move toward opening for the winter season.
“We started blowing snow last week and we were blowing it all night on Monday,” he said. “We’ve had ideal temperatures the past few nights and we’re hoping to be open Saturday or Sunday.”
Jeff Slivinski, director of marketing at Montage, added the opening will be dependent on the upcoming weather.
“We’ll have to see what the temperatures are over the next couple days,” he said.
According to Slivinski, the resort typically uses the middle weekend in December as a benchmark date for opening.

“We’ll be right around there or before this year,” he said.
Bob DeLuca, director of sales and marketing at Elk Mountain in Susquehanna County, said the facility started making snow Saturday night, but with the high temperature expected to be near 50 degrees with rain this weekend it’s difficult to pick a date.
Camelback Resort in the Poconos has been taking advantage of the cold temperatures to create snow and a front desk supervisor said the facility has a projected opening date of Dec. 18.
