A special car parade later this month will celebrate the centennial of women receiving the right to vote.
Maureen McVail, the leader of the SHE Leads Road Rally, will bring some specialty cars to the event on Saturday, June 20. The parade, which will include about 20 to 25 vehicles from McVail and the local area, will meet at the Greater Scranton YMCA, 706 N. Blakely St., Dunmore, at 2:30 p.m. and then depart between 3 to 3:15 p.m. It will travel through Dunmore and Scranton’s Green Ridge neighborhood before turning right on to Main Avenue, heading north to Olyphant, taking Route 347 to the O’Neill Highway and returning to the YMCA.
2020 marks the 100th anniversary of the passage of the 19th Amendment, which granted women the right to vote. The SHE Leads Road Rally, a celebration of the suffragettes’ success, originally set for June 19 and 20, has been pushed back to Oct. 16 and 17 because of the coronavirus pandemic. The event, described as a “toad trip from America’s Birthplace to the Birthplace of Women’s Rights,” will feature a group of women making an overnight round-trip drive from the Drexel University College of Medicine, Philadelphia, to Seneca Falls, New York, where the first Women’s Rights Convention occurred.
