People who say there is nothing to do in Northeast Pennsylvania simply haven’t looked outside their own backyard. Each week, I will highlight some of the best family-friendly activities happening in NEPA. I may even see you there.
Family fun day at Aylesworth Park, Saturday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.. Enjoy free face painting, music and refreshments, hosted by Lackawanna County. Learn more here.
Festival of Wood at Grey Towers in Milford, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday. My husband is a woodworker, so we first attended this festival two years ago. But anyone who enjoys nature will enjoy looking at the displays, browsing the arts and crafts and exploring the grounds, originally the summer estate of the James Pinchot family and later the primary home of Gifford Pinchot, America’s first forester and founder of the USDA Forest Service. Kids will enjoy several activities and meeting Smokey the Bear. Learn more here.
Moscow Country Street Fair. We went to the street fair last year and had a great time, browsing through arts and crafts booths, listening to live entertainment and eating some good food. On Saturday, kids can meet a unicorn and a dragon. Count us in! Learn more here.
The Wayne County Fair, located in Honesdale, opens Friday and runs until Aug. 10. My kids love to check out the animals, eat fair food, and (if I’m brave enough) go on a couple rides. Bonus: your $10 admission pays for rides and kids 24 months and under are free. Learn more here.

Many local police departments will host National Night Out events in the next week. Scranton Police will have its National Night Out on Tuesday from 6 to 9 p.m. at Scranton High. Learn more here.
