One of my favorite shirts this summer — and one that I get a lot of comments about — has a simple message: Raise kind humans. I want my girls to grow up to be strong, independent and kind. With school set to resume in a few weeks, we all need a reminder to treat others with kindness.
I first learned of the #BuildUp effort earlier this year. After Rebecca Haggerty died last year, the South Abington Twp. woman’s daughters and family friends wanted to honor her legacy. Since last fall, Haggerty’s daughters, Zoë, Charlotte, and Lilly and friend Judy Detter and her daughters, Zoe and Allie, have written uplifting notes and stuck them on desks, car windshields and throughout the community. I got to see the kindness this spring, when I saw the reactions from students at John F. Kennedy Elementary, when they found notes on their desks.
To continue to #BuildUp others, the group will give others the chance to be kind on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Tom Hesser Dealerships, 900 O’Neill Highway in Dunmore. At the event, people can write inspiring messages for others, customize yard signs and enjoy refreshments and a bounce house.
#BuildUp others. You never know the difference you may make.
