Downtown Scranton boasts a rich history, and the building that houses POSH at the Scranton Club is no different.

For many years, the brick property at 404 N. Washington Ave. served as the private Scranton Club, which moved to the basement as POSH opened on the upper floors in 2011. Joshua Mast and Paul Blackledge took inspiration for their upscale eatery from their favorite New York City restaurants. Today, the restaurant has patio, sidewalk and indoor seating as well as curbside pickup and delivery.

Chef’s Table recently chatted with Mast about the American bistro.

Q: What is the history of the restaurant?

A: POSH at the Scranton Club is a full-service restaurant and event facility located in beautiful downtown Scranton in what was formerly a private club. In 2011, the building was opened for the first time in its history to the public without requiring a membership of the Scranton Club. POSH offers classic American cuisine in a refined, casual setting as well as the latest cocktails and entertainment.

Q: What type of food do you serve?

A: Upscale American bistro-style food.

Q: What’s your specialty?

A: Our specialties include our Lobster Mac and Cheese and Mahi Mahi Tacos, the Roast Beef Dip sandwich and 5 Napkin Burger, and for our entrees, our Filet of Beef and Salmon as well as our signature drink, the POSHtini.

Q: How did your menu come to be?

A: From living and dining in New York City, Paul and myself — “Posh” — took ideas from our favorite New York restaurants, such as Hillstone and The Smith.

Q: What type of seating do you have?

A: POSH offers multiple dining spaces from our main restaurant, patio and sidewalk dining, Fashion Lounge and Oak Bar.

Q: What kinds of specials do you offer?

A: Wine Wednesday features all bottles of wine for half off, and Happy Hour takes place Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 4 to 6 p.m.

Q: Do you offer catering, event space, etc.?

A: Yes, the second floor event space can hold up to 250 guests for any special event, or (guests can book) the Fashion Lounge on the first floor or the private Scranton Club.

Q: Where do you see the restaurant headed in the future?

A: We are looking forward to the upcoming holiday season with having restaurant dinners and private events.
