On a day in which Luzerne County saw a record number of new COVID-19 cases and deaths, the state department of health announced plans for a drive-thru testing site in the parking lot of Mohegan Sun Pocono casino in Plains Twp.

Testing will be available starting noon Friday and will follow a 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. schedule through Dec. 22.

Up to 450 patients can be tested per day. No appointment is necessary and testing is done on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Patients must be ages three and older and are not required to show symptoms of COVID-19 in order to be tested. Patients are encouraged to bring a photo-ID or insurance card. Registration will also be completed on-site. The turnaround time for testing results is two to seven days.

The casino is closed, as part of the state COVID-19 mitigation plan ordered by Gov. Tom Wolf last week.
