Community Church will be hosting a food drive Saturday to collect hundreds of bags of food for families in need in the Poconos.
“We are asking for fresh fruit and other fresh foods in addition to the usual non-perishables,” said Freddy Robles, Technical Director at Community Church. “This will be helping so many families hurt by the COVID pandemic.”
Robles is part of over 60 volunteers that have been planning this event for the past four weeks. Over 700 empty shopping bags with lists of what was needed were given out at the church.
“People are now supposed to return them full of food to be donated to the nearby Feeding Families food pantry,” said Robles. “But anyone and everyone is encouraged to stop by and give what they can to help.”
The event has been planned with the intent of making the outdoor, drive-thru experience a celebration of generosity and positivity.
According to Robles, the food collected by the pantry will then be disbursed to over 300 families in need within the community.
All food collected will be donated to Feeding Families food pantry at the Mountain Center in Tobyhanna, which serves hundreds of families in the Poconos.
The Drive-Thru Food Drive will be accepting donations on Saturday, Sep. 26 between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. at the Community Church located at 1050 Memorial Boulevard, Tobyhanna.
