NATURE NUGGET: Did you know Monarch butterflies (Danaus plexippus) are the only butterfly known to travel a two-way migration like birds do? Monarchs have migrated north from the Southern U.S. and Mexico to lay their eggs. Those eggs will hatch into caterpillars who are very hungry and will eat 200 times their weight in Common milkweed (Asclepias syriaca) during their 10-14 day caterpillar stage.
