The Scranton Riverwalk is the gateway to the 40-mile Lackawanna River Heritage trail, a multi-purpose recreational trail along the Lackawanna River from Union Dale to Pittston. Slightly under one mile in length, the Riverwalk runs from Olive Street to North 7th Avenue in downtown Scranton, where it links to the Central New Jersey Rail-Trail section. The CNJ Rail-Trail continues to Elm Street in South Scranton. Together the two trails create a two-mile route that is convenient for walkers, runners, and cyclists. The Scranton Riverwalk features a spur trail that connects the mail trail to Scranton High School to provide a safe walking or bicycling route for students to and from school and their neighborhoods. The Riverwalk section has a paved asphalt surface and is fully accessible for wheelchairs and strollers.
