Fans, I know by this point, it’s getting tough to both endure and think positively.
But, we must.
Today, I started working earlier than usual. And I decided to do a pair of virtual track and field championship meets.
Why?
I am not sure. I don’t like following others who are crutching on historical reminiscing instead of spotlighting the kids who are actually missing their seasons and are being hurt by the shutdown of schools,
But, it’s fun and it sparks conversation. This one shouldn’t really. It’s kind of straight forward.
HERE’S THE FORMAT:
There used to be an old Lackawanna Track Conference Championship Meet. At it, each team could enter only ONE athlete per event. It was the best of the best in each event. An all-star showdown.
- Now this should get former Abington Heights coach Frank Passetti rolling his eyes. Because what if (gosh I hate that phrase these days) a team had the top two athletes in a particular event?
- Doesn’t matter. This is an ON THE BLOG virtual meet and we make the rules!
So, what I did, was take the Top 8 performances from each event in the conference and scored it like the Robert Spagna Championship meet.
- First place was awarded 10 points, second, 8, third, 6, fourth, 5, fifth, 4, sixth, 3, seventh, 2, and eighth, 1.
Then, I added the scores and came away with a Class 3A Champion and a Class 2A Champion. Not terribly difficult and we had a little bit of fun.
Today, we start off with the GIRLS MEET. The boys meet results will be tomorrow ON THE BLOG.
