District 2 officials made the decision to postpone the championship meets for Class 2A and Class 3A to Wednesday and Thursday, 3 p.m. at Scranton Memorial Stadium.
That delay gives us a chance to look back at the storied history of the great event. The boys meet started in 1927 and the girls began in 1978.
There are some remarkable performances and athletes who have competed in District 2. The Ismail brothers — Raghib “Rocket” and Qadry “The Missle” — turned the sport into must-see in the late 1980s.
Girls track has really taken off during the 2000s. There have been 32 district records set among the 36 events since 2000 in the girls meets.
