This has been, if nothing else, a unique high school sports season.

It started off with a very exciting fall when Riverside’s Karissa Ghigiarelli captured a state championship in Class 2A tennis.

The winter season also looked promising for success on the state level when the coronavirus pandemic shut down the state basketball playoffs and state swimming and diving championships.

And then, COVID-19 wiped out the entire spring sports season.

As June is winding down, and high schools honor their seniors the best they can with graduation ceremonies across the state, it’s time for ON THE BLOG to go through and salute the team champions in the Lackawanna Interscholastic Athletic Association.

Congratulations to all of the athletes who helped make this another successful sports season.
