After a two-day break to re-charge the battery in the KIA Rio and myself, the tour AROUND THE CAMPS resumed Monday morning.

There are no more heat acclimatization days. Monday marked the first day of two-a-day practices, most football players, with maybe the exception of the seniors, dread two-a-days. These practices test an athlete’s mental and physical toughness. Once the athletes are carrying 15+ pounds of gear, beneath the beating sunshine and intense heat of August, things become very challenging.

But, for a first day, the overwhelming assessment is that Abington Heights looked much improved with increased numbers, Riverside practiced with a lot of excitement and Scranton Prep continued to practice with a sharp attention to detail.

So, let’s move onward. …

2019 ABINGTON HEIGHTS COMETS

Matt Lastauskas is a player who head coach Joe Repshis feels could be a dominant one in the Lackawanna Football Conference.

In the last two seasons, however, he has missed six games because of a nagging shoulder issue. This offseason, he had surgery to correct it and he is hoping to have a healthy senior season.

More importantly, he is looking to get Abington Heights back on the winning track.

This year, the Cavaliers will try to win their fifth straight District 2 Class 3A championship, but will do so with very few starters returning from their PIAA semifinal team from 2018.

One of the returning standouts is Brendan Colleran, who started on both sides of the ball last season.
