CBD oil has been a buzzword in beauty and wellness over the past few years. Now, it’s cropping up in products from industry veterans to newer brands and it’s time to dispel myths, clear up confusion and take a look at its benefits.

Before we get to anything else, CBD oil, short for “Cannabidiol,” will NOT get you high. While CBD is a chemical compound found in cannabis sativa plant, it is nonpsychoactive and contains no mind-altering tetrahydrocannabinol (THC.) It’s legal in all 50 states though some beauty brands that carry products containing CBD in their online stores have to sell them through a separate website and only in the United States.

CBD oil’s benefits have been proven but beware of “greenwashing,” or deceptive marketing strategies companies use to make it seem like there’s CBD in your skin care. Sometimes, companies try to use hemp seed oil and CBD oil interchangeably but these are two different ingredients.

Hemp seed oil will not clog pores, has anti-inflammatory properties and is ultra moisturizing. It can be used within a product or on its own. Sometimes, brands will use both hemp seed oil and CBD oil in a product.

While there’s no real harm in using a product with hemp seed oil instead of CBD, the latter has been proven to more powerful. To make sure that you’re actually reaping the benefits of CBD and using a product containing CBD, look for “cannabidiol” on the ingredient list.

Today, we’re going to solely focus on CBD oil.

CBD oil is a powerful ingredient with tons of benefits for almost any concern from skin care to wellness. I put together a little guide to help you find the right CBD product to add to your regimen.

CBD has been shown to relieve pain; treat anxiety and depression; reduce symptoms and side effects related to cancer and treatment including nausea, vomiting and pain, and provide benefits for those with neurological disorders. Some CBD oils, such as Lord Jones Royal Oil (which contains a whopping 1000 milligrams of CBD) — are multi-purpose and can be used as a tincture taken by mouth; a topical applied directly to skin, or added as a booster to any food or drink.
