Valre Whitman finally got her day of relaxation.

The Scranton resident is this year’s Sunday Times’ Day of Pampering contest winner. The contest — sponsored by RD BlowDry Bar and Salon, with locations in Scranton and Clarks Summit, and Jerry’s For All Seasons, 201 Jessup Ave., Dunmore — grants one lucky mom in The Sunday Times’ annual Mother’s Day edition a host of pampering treatments and other goodies.

Due to COVID-19, Whitman had to wait for restrictions to be lifted to redeem her prizes, but on Thursday, Whitman was treated to a head-to-toe makeover. This included a manicure, a pedicure, highlights and a blow-out at RD BlowDry Bar & Salon, 324 Penn Ave., Scranton.

Whitman also was granted a flower arrangement of her choice from Jerry’s and a $50 gift card to Sibio’s Restaurant, 1240 Quincy Ave., Dunmore.

Whitman, who was selected at random out of more than 800 moms who submitted photos, found out she won along with the rest of the Mother’s Day edition’s readers.

For the first time in the contest’s history, we revealed the winner inside the section.

On Mother’s Day, Whitman woke up early to find the photo of her and her son, Dan Scherle of West Palm Beach, Florida, as well as texts from friends congratulating her on winning.

“This is the best thing to happen to me this year,” she said at the time. “I’m really just blown away.”
