On Sunday night, Jennifer Lopez, 50, and Shakira, 43, showed the world what it meant to be sexy and strong at Super Bowl LIV.

One of the most-asked questions on social media yesterday was what J.Lo and Shakira’s skin care routines were.

Well, Cioci Gia is here to make your lives easier.

Thanks to my obsession with celebrity AND skin care, I scoured the inter webs to find you the staples of both Jennifer and Shakira’s skin care regimens. Some are expensive, some are insanely affordable and some are only available to celebs with a team of people helping them. Alas, here are the basics from both of their routines.

Jennifer Lopez

Sunscreen

She never leaves homes without it. Use it every day. Maybe NOW you’ll take me seriously.

Super facial oil

A good facial oil will most immediately make the skin appear plumper and like you’ve had a good night’s sleep. The oil also acts as a barrier to keep moisture in and strengthen your skin’s outer layer for a bouncy appearance. Jennifer’s favorite, Själ’s Saphir Concentrate, also has added ingredients for skin and age-prevention benefits including aquamarine (the eternal youth stone); botanical retinol (as opposed to animal-derived); soothing blue chamomile; and a biomarine complex, which is typically a blend of fish proteins and polysaccharides which, combined, create a powerhouse for skin’s ability to retain moisture (which keeps fine lines and wrinkles at bay) and to support the skin’s structure (think firm, taught, bouncy skin.) It’s totally expensive AF ($175) but you can look for these ingredients to incorporate into your own routines.

Dermatologist-formulated skin care

Celebs have access to the best dermatologists on the planet but sometimes those derms formulate skin care lines just for us plebeians. J.Lo’s go-to cleanser and eye cream, Lancer The Method: Cleanse and Lancer Eye Contour Lifting Cream, were created by Beverly Hills board-certified dermatologist Dr. Harold Lancer. The cleanser is packed with amino acids, moisture-rich hydrators and skin-soothing agents, so it cleanses skin while also hydrating, protecting and keeping it healthy. The eye cream contains lots of mildly hard-to-explain ingredients that I am too tired to type right now BUT it’s everything you could want in an eye cream to keep away dark circles and bags and make sure skin stays firm and smooth. Trust me on this.

Super rich day cream

Moisture is the goal when it’s about age prevention. In the most basic sense, dry skin crepes and folds easy. Moisturized skin won’t hold a line like dry skin will. It’s no wonder Jenny uses a really, really rich cream like Dr. Hauschka Rose Day Cream, made with natural hydrators, protectors and soothers like rose petal extract, wild rose hips, shea butter, rose petal wax, avocado oil, marsh mallow extract and St. John’s wort.

Collagen supplements

Collagen is the main protein component of our skin that gives structure but collagen production slows with age which makes skin look saggy and drawn. Certain skin care products can help kickstart it but ingesting it in a pill or powder form heps it absorb right into the bloodstream. Not sure on Jen’s faves but I would look for one with the most absorbent collagen, marine collagen, which comes from skin and/or scales of fish. (Most collagen comes from animal bones and tissues.) One thing to be skeptical of: just because you take collagen doesn’t mean it will necessarily go to your facial skin — your body will break it down and send it to wherever you body needs it. However, it can’t hurt to take it orally and use a skin care product with an ingredient such as vitamin C. (See below.)

The basics

Are you ready for it? Drink lots of water, eat super clean, and get 9-10 hours of sleep a night. She also doesn’t drink alcohol except maybe a sip on NYE. Don’t shoot the messenger.

Shakira

Think clean

Shakira, Shakira almost never wears makeup, according to most interviews. (No makeup = possibly no alcohols on skin to dry it out. Though, taking off your makeup every night is just as good.) She also is into beauty with a standard meaning no parabens and as naturally-derived as she can get.

Vitamin C serum

There’s no specifics on what her faves are but everyone’s routine should contain a vitamin C as it’s a super antioxidant that helps kickstart collagen production, fade dark spots and help skin to look fresher and brighter. Vitamin C is an unstable ingredient so look for bottle with that protects from air and light (aka no dropper-top bottles) such as Drunk Elephant C-Firma Day Serum. (Shakira would be into Drunk Elephant’s stance on formulations since all of the brand’s products are free of silicones, essential oils, chemical screens, SLS, drying alcohols and fragrance/dyes.)

Vitamin E capsules

Vitamin E is an antioxidant with anti-inflammatory properties that also helps skin’s health and appearance. Shakira has stated that, after a dehydrating flight, she’ll break open pure vitamin E capsules “from the drugstore” and apply them right to her skin. Used in conjunction with vitamin C, vitamin E is a one-two punch.

Cleansing brush

Cleansing brushes help to really remove impurities, SPF, makeup, pollution and whatever else is gunking up your face. It also gives a manual exfoliation which helps lift dead skin cells off the surface and allows serums and other products penetrate deeper to help do their jobs better. Use it in your nighttime routine but don’t go crazy and buff your skin off. BE GENTLE.

Sunscreen

Look! It’s SPF again. Shakira loves BabyGanic Sunscreen Spray and La Roche-Posay Anthelios 50. You can get both at drugstore prices.
