Stuff the Bus for Toys for Tots

The 12th annual Stuff the Bus for Toys for Tots toy drive takes place Thursday, Dec. 9, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Lackawanna Transit Center, 30 Lackawanna Ave., Scranton.

Prospector from Rock 107, a Times-Shamrock Communications radio station, will broadcast live from the collection.

Several businesses in Scranton will accept donations before the event: Runway Luxury Boutique, 128 N. Washington Ave.; Northern Light Espresso Bar & Cafe, 536 Biden St. (formerly Spruce Street); Downtown Deli and Eatery, 300 Biden St.; Radisson at Lackawanna Station hotel, 700 Lackawanna Ave.; Scranton City Hall, 340 N. Washington Ave.; and others.

Donations also will be accepted the same day from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on the Biden Street side of Lackawanna County Courthouse Square.

Book signings

Dr. Melvyn and Marilyn Wolk will sign their book, “The Ill-Phabet: An ABC of Illness and Health Education for Children” on Saturday, Dec. 11.

Book signings take place from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Library Express in the Marketplace at Steamtown, 300 Lackawanna Ave., Scranton, and from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Gathering Place, 304 S. State St, Clarks Summit.

Appalachian Service Project will sell homemade candy at the Gathering Place, Clarks Summit.

’The Nutcracker’

Enjoy the holiday classic “The Nutcracker” presented by Scranton Civic Ballet Company.

The show will take place Friday, Dec. 10, at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday, Dec. 11, at 2 p.m. at the Theater at North, 1539 N. Main Ave., Scranton.

Tickets cost $18.50 and can be purchased on eventbrite.com. Wheelchair-accessible seating will be available.

Additionally, WVIA television will broadcast a recording of Scranton Civic Ballet Company’s 2020 “Nutcracker” on Thursday, Dec. 16 at 8:30 p.m.; Friday, Dec. 17, at 1:30 p.m.; and Saturday, Dec. 25, at 5 p.m.

Breakfast with Santa

Feast on a holiday-themed meal at the Breakfast with Santa presented by the Scranton High School show choir on Saturday, Dec. 11, at the high school, 63 Mike Munchak Way.

There will be three seatings: 9 to 10 a.m., 10:15 to 11:15 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Reservation times will be enforced because of COVID-19 safety measures.

Guests also can enjoy crafts, live music and more. Homemade lollipops, hot chocolate bars, candied popcorn and magical reindeer food also will be available for purchase.

EGF Photography will take pictures at the event, and photos are included in the price.

Tickets cost $15 general admission and are free for children under 1.

Santa trolley rides

Celebrate the holidays with Santa on the trolley on Saturday, Dec. 11, and Sunday, Dec. 12.

Rides depart from the Electric City Trolley Museum, 399 Cliff St., Scranton, at 10:30 and 11:30 a.m. and 12:45, 2 and 3 p.m. both days. The trolley takes a 10-mile to PNC Field, Moosic, and then returns to the museum.

A children’s holiday celebration also will happen Saturday from 11:30 a.m. to 3 pm with activities such as arts and crafts and balloon art. Mrs. Claus and a magician also will visit.
