A new build-your-own salad eatery opened on Penn Avenue’s 300 block, and, in spite of the pandemic, the Salad Shop has been doing a brisk business.

The Parlopiano family, the same ones behind the famed Samario’s Pizza and Restaurant on West Market Street, opened their shop about a month ago for take-out only and now offer outdoor seating.

The shop sells salads, wraps and features the first Pepsi digital fountain for personalized beverages in the area. Until recently, Coca-Cola has cornered the market on high tech soft-drink mixing, co-owner Sammy Parlopiano said.

“It’s been a challenge, but we seem to have a lot of support,” he said. “When and if downtown opens fully, we’re excited to see what that brings.”
