The Scranton Planning Commission greenlit a new Dunkin’ Donuts on South Washington Avenue that will operate as a drive-thru only.

The planning commission met Wednesday and approved plans for a new 900-square-foot building at 1120 S. Washington Ave. to house a Dunkin’ Donuts store without indoor dining.

H.W. Roever Inc., which also operates an existing Dunkin’ Donuts nearby at 1101 S. Washington Ave. with seating inside, plans to run both stores simultaneously, Holly Carron of H.W. Roever said in a Facebook message.

The company hopes to alleviate traffic from its existing store while providing a new state-of-the-art location with a double drive-thru, Carron said.

According to its Facebook page, the company owns and operates eight Dunkin’ Donuts locations in the Scranton area.

The commission also approved the construction of a 7191-square-foot Dollar General store on a vacant lot in South Side at the corner of Cedar Avenue and Birch Street.

The store would join at least two other Dollar General locations in the city on Meridian Avenue and North Keyser Avenue.

In other business, the commission approved plans by Central Scranton Self Storage to construct self-storage units at 1220 N. Washington Ave.

The commission also heard from Lou Cozza with Kiley Associates LLC regarding a proposed 8,100-square-foot one-story Northeast Oral Surgery center to be built on an empty lot in the 1100 block of North Washington Avenue. Afterward, members accepted the plans for review.

“It will definitely help that lot,” commission Chairman Jay Murphy said.

Members also accepted for review plans from Jushi Holdings for a 61,852-square-foot addition to the medical cannabis company’s facility at 2000 Rosanna Ave.

Representing Jushi, Dave Lopatka with Reuther + Bowen said the company is expanding and with that, plans to at least double its employees.
