An annual yoga fundraiser for the Northeastern Pennsylvania Philharmonic will go on this year.

Jaya Yoga of Clarks Summit and the Marketplace at Steamtown, 700 Lackawanna Ave., Scranton, will present the seventh annual Yoga on the Roof event Saturday, July 4, at 9 a.m. The hour-long class will feature live music with instruction by Jaya’s Hilary Steinberg, and Janelle Tench on the roof of one of the mall’s parking garages.

The yoga fundraiser typically draws large crowds. Because of the pandemic, however, this year organizers are requiring advance registration and payment by Thursday, July 2, in order to keep a reduced class size. Participants will be spaced at least 6 feet apart and must sign a waiver when registering, also confirming that they ” are in good health and have not been in contact with anyone experiencing symptoms of COVID-19 as detailed by the CDC,” according to the philharmonic.

Registration costs $10 donation and benefits the orchestra’s educational programs, which include “Music in our Schools,” “Meet the Maestra,” the Young People’s Concert and the juried mentoring program for local high school students. To register, visit nepaphil.org/event/yoga-on-the-roof-2020.

All levels of yoga experience are welcome. Participants must bring their own mats, hand sanitizer and water; follow CDC guidelines; and wear a mask when entering the marketplace.
