If you haven’t been out of the house in awhile, this is worth cleaning off the car.

The Tunkhannock Business and Professional Association is partnering with 30 area businesses and restaurants to offer “Frosted February Tunk-opoly,” the TBPA version of the favorite family game.

“For the past several years, TBPA has offered special activities and tasting events on one or two February weekends at various businesses throughout town,” explains Nancy Parlo, TBPA director. “This year, the board of directors has worked to create an event that will be held over a two-week period, rather than a day or two,” she added. This will create a safer environment to visit locations at their leisure from this Saturday until the end of the month. Greenwood’s Furniture is sponsoring this February event.

The game is designed in a similar fashion to a Monopoly game with some Tunkhannock twists. There are 10 color groups rather than the standard eight. TBPA eliminated the railroads and utilities to better accommodate a wider variety of Tunkhannock business participants. But players of the Tunkhannock game can collect property cards by visiting the participating locations listed below. Each location will have player “game cards” and rules.

Participants include Auto Hub of NEPA; B&R Distributors; Blossoming Stems Floral; Creekside Gardens; Downtown Sundry; Ebb’s Candy Jar; Eclectic Heart Antiques; Gays True Value Hardware; Greenwood’s Furniture; Jr’s Hallmark; Kitson Gallery; La Catalina; Mercantile 22; Monzies Floral Design; Nimble Hill Winery & Brewing; Peso’s Pizza & Southwest Grill; PreHempt CBD Boutique; PS Bank; Ready, Set, Stage; River Top Fitness; Samario’s Pizza; T&C Grille; T-Town Shed; The Blogg/Yearbook; The Finan Detail; The Fireplace Restaurant; Tioga Bistro; Twigs Café; Wyoming County Press Examiner; and Wyoming County Beverage.

The Tunkhannock Public Library is also in on the game. It is hosting a special challenge raffle. Stop in and try your luck to enter to win prizes.

“Of course, we would love it for all game players to visit all 30 participating locations”, added Parlo. “But the more color groups of cards players collect, the larger the prize opportunity. For each same color group of cards collected, players must make at least one purchase and submit their receipt along with the other cards from the group. Cards must be submitted in sealed envelopes with the players name on the front at the Wyoming County Press Examiner office at 16 East Tioga St.

Players have until March 15 to drop off their sealed envelopes with playing cards and purchase receipts. If they chose to mail them to TBPA, P.O. Box 573, Tunkhannock, PA 18657, the envelopes must be received by March 15. Individuals who collect one to three sets of properties (three separate colors) with receipts will be entered in a drawing for $50. Any individual who collects four to six sets of properties with receipts will be entered in a drawing for $100. Any individual who collects seven to 10 sets of properties with receipts will be entered in a drawing to win $200.

There will also be a special drawing on Saturday, Feb. 20, where shoppers can receive A ‘Free Parking’ card. Each of the 30 locations will have a few ‘Free Parking’ cards to randomly give to visitors. Recipients of the free Parking Card can simply complete the info on the back and drop off at the newspaper office. Participants may enter the ‘Free Parking’ drawing only once.

Feb. 20 will also feature a “Warming Station” hosted by The Finan Detail. It will be located near The Finan Detail and JR’s Hallmark.

Frosted February Tunk-opoly is held in conjunction with Cabin Fever Frenzy. Organized by a group of antique and specialty shops, Cabin Fever Frenzy has 20 NEPA participants including Tunkhannock area shops Ebb’s Candy Jar, Eclectic Heart and Antiques, PreHempt CBD Boutique, Bridge Street Marketplace and Sunny Treasures Vendors Collectible.
