Lansford Alive! is working to brighten the borough with a new mural that will be placed on Patterson Street (Route 209).

The nonprofit group is working with the Northeast Art Project, a Scranton-based mural company, which has designed a mural to capture the rich history of Lansford.

“This mural project is a great idea to showcase our rich coal-mining history, while adding an eye-catching mural on a busy stretch of Route 209 in Lansford. We hope it will be considered another asset and accomplishment in town,” said Lansford Alive! President Chris Ondrus.

Coaldale native Ryan Hnat founded the Northeast Art Project and will guide the project from beginning to end.

“This project is the perfect case study for the arts, a town not far from another tourist town (Jim Thorpe), is the perfect place to paint everything in murals,” Hnat said. “Paint the town, and I bet it will boost economic development. People will drive to Lansford to see art. Now, we just need help to get the project going.”

To move the project forward, Lansford Alive! hopes to raise $3,500. To donate, visit kickstarter.com and search “Lansford, Pa. mural.” Donations can be any amount and donors may contact Lansford Alive! to donate. The goal is to raise the money by July 13.
