Olyphant native and Broadway star Judy McLane will appear in a new take on a Shakespearean classic this weekend.

McLane — who starred in “Mamma Mia!” on Broadway for a decade — will portray Madam Capulet in a concert staged reading of  “The Romeo & Juliet Project” on Friday, Aug. 16, and Saturday, Aug. 17 at 7 p.m. in Mashashimuet Park, Sag Harbor, New York, according to Playbill. The venue is about a four-and-a-half hour drive from Scranton.

The latest show in Bay Street Theater’s Under the Stars Community Outreach Program, the new musical features music by Pat Benatar and Neil Giraldo and a book by Bradley Bredeweg, setting the story in modern times. The cast also includes Alex Nee as Romeo, Ashley Argota as Juliet, Darlesia Cearcy as Madam Montague, Matt Doyle as Paris, Howard McGillin as the Friar, Jordan Kai Burnett as Benvolia, Carson Higgins as Tybalt, Natalie Masini as Nura, and Jamar Williams as Mercutio. Adam Brett will read the stage directions.

Admission is free, although there is a limited amount of VIP seating available for a fee for the Friday show only. For more information, visit BayStreet.org.
