With sleet and freezing rain in the forecast, the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission will enforce vehicle restrictions along the entire highway starting at 6 p.m. Monday.
Those Tier 1 restrictions also will apply to all extensions of the turnpike as well – the Mon-Fayette Expressway, the Greensburg Bypass, the Southern Beltway, the Beaver Valley Expressway and Route 276 and Interstate 95 and 476, also known as the Northeast Extension.
Vehicles that won’t be allowed on the turnpike include tractors that either aren’t towing trailers or have empty or lightly loaded trailers, some enclosed cargo delivery trucks, passenger vehicles that are towing trailers, recreational vehicles, buses that lack tire chains or other traction equipment and motorcycles.
PennDOT also announced Tier 1 restrictions effective at 6 p.m. for Interstate 70 from the West Virginia border to the turnpike; Interstate 80 from Interstate 99 to the Ohio border; and all of I-86, I-90, I-279, I-376 and I-579.
