There will be Independence Day fireworks at Lake Wallenpaupack, but organizers have put several new measures in place to ensure social distancing.

People interested in watching the July 4 show — or July 5 if the weather is bad — can do so from their boat on the lake or they can park their cars at Wallenpaupack Area High School. The school’s parking lots will open at 7:30 p.m. and will be closed once full. Cars will be parked in every other spot to ensure social distancing. The school bleachers will be closed.

The display begins at dusk, roughly 9:15 p.m.

The North Pocono Minisink Lions Club, meanwhile, has canceled its fireworks extravaganza planned for Independence Day weekend because of uncertainty over COVID-19 conditions in the area.

The 28th annual event was scheduled for July 3 at North Pocono Football Stadium.

The Lions Club said it will be planning for the event’s return in 2021.

Last week, the Rotary Club of the Abingtons announced it had canceled its annual fireworks display, set for July 2 on the Abington Heights Middle School grounds.
