The Good Intent Hose Company Auxiliary will sponsor chicken barbecue open-pit charcoal grilling by Two Guys Chicken from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 12, at Craft Haus parking lot, Minersville-Pottsville Highway, Llewellyn. Additionally, the company will have a meat bingo Wednesday, Oct. 20. Doors will open at noon and bingo will go from 1 to 4 p.m. The cost is $20; meat will be provided by Mar Lin Meat Market. The firehouse kitchen will be open for the event; all are welcome.

The Ringtown Valley Rotary Club is joining in a worldwide recognition of World Polio Day on Thursday, Oct. 24, and Rotarians are asking people to participate at St. John’s Lutheran Church on Saturday, Oct. 12, by supporting the club’s sale of pulled pork sandwiches for $4 with all proceeds going to the “End Polio Now” effort. Members said in a release Rotary has been working to eradicate polio for more than 30 years.

“As a founding partner of the Global Polio Eradication Initiative, we’ve reduced polio cases by 99.9% since our first project to vaccinate children in the Philippines in 1979. We’ve helped immunize more than 2.5 billion children in 122 countries,” members said in the release.

The Ashland Historic Preservation Society, Ashland Rotary and American Legion, meanwhile, will sponsor a roast beef dinner Wednesday, Nov. 13, at the American Legion post, 505 Center St., to benefit the Ashland Old-Fashioned Christmas.
